Through world mythologies, I have looked at the various personalities of the sky, and the different incarnations the gods/deities of the sky have come to take. Drawing aspects of its nature, along with its physical vastness, and elemental properties, I have been making work that aims to capture the sky’s essence.Working with hand dyed muslin I created a flock of swallows swooping in the sky. They symbolise god, community, love, and family, and bring hope to all who see them. As birds they are seen as the connections between the heavens and the earth, perfect for my narrative, they created a whimsical installation, a magical realist world.

‘“Hope” is the thing with feathers -

That perches in the soul -

And sings the tune without the words -

And never stops - at all –‘
